Deathwatch

£110.00

It’s old. It’s gnarly. It came from the estate of Lillian Martha Bull, a wealthy socialite who developed an obsession with death after her husband died from cholera aged just 42. Inside, it was found to contain some old photographs and a s@fety coffin be11.

Cholera victims often lapsed into deep comas prior to death. So deep in fact that Victorian physicians had come to question when an individual had actually died.

Being buried alive became a huge fear among Victorian society and, as a result, they often buried their dead in a safety coffin with a pull cord inside attached to a bell above ground and assigned a deathwatch.

Lillian’s obsession grew and those around her were instructed that should she also succumb to illness, a coffin bell was to be employed. She believed the use of such a bell would guarantee instant release from premature confinement. Unfortunately for Lillian, this would prove not to be the case.

It’s rumoured that this is the actual bell that was used and that it possesses a strange and unexplained link with its owner. The performer is unable to explain the link between Lillian and the bell but remains convinced that unprecedented and traumatic events could cause certain energies to reside within seemingly inanimate objects. At least that’s their theory, for now.

Deathwatch is a complete accessory kit and routine for the Ces@ral Spirit be11. The backstory and hand aged photographs illustrates perfectly the fear among Victorian society of being buried alive. Use wisely.

What's included

The box is manufactured using heavily antiqued, solid brass fittings and then carefully hand aged to perfection using a six-stage process. The photographs are printed on 800-micron vellum before being treated with several ageing chemicals. They look just like well-worn photographs of the period.

The drawstring jute bag adds to the drama with a macabre sense of decay. The hemp twine, as well as looking aesthetically correct, prevents your precious bell from being dropped by the more nervous of audience members.

The kit includes the following:

  • Hand aged box (made to the perfect size for the bell)
  • Six hand-aged Victorian photographs (one with special back)
  • Jute drawstring bag
  • Length of hemp twine with slipknots at either end
  • Basic routine (to get you started)
  • Dark Artefacts tag of authenticity

I have just received my Deathwatch and I couldn’t be happier.

This is a great addition / practical use for my Spirit Bell and the workmanship and attention to detail is absolutely superb.

I am currently in the process of down sizing my very large magic collection (for several reasons). However, I still can’t resist the occasional magic / bizarre effect buy, especially when the item / effect is practical, extremely well made and very easy to perform. Deathwatch fits into all these categories, and then some.

This is my first purchase from Dark Artefacts and it certainly won’t be my last. I now eagerly await the release of “The Uninvited” later this year.

Arrived today. This is a beautiful piece. It really looks like it is from the 1890’s. Great storage for the bell also. Overall, am completely satisfied with this purchase.

Treated correctly, this box gets as much attention as the effect itself. I’ve not had an audience yet who hasn’t gone crazy with excitement when given the chance to examine the inscription inside the box. It is difficult to underestimate its impact.

This is a consummate piece of craftsmanship! A joy to perform with, and the perfect addition for any Spirit Bell routine. I was also particularly impressed with the Customer Service provided. Nick took great time and effort to answer all of my questions and I look forward to making my next purchase from Dark Artefacts. Without doubt once of the ‘greats’ of modern Mentalism and haunted magic. Highly recommended.

Amazing. Finally a box that says it’s aged that looks aged.
The attention to detail is a work of art.
Perfect for the ceseral spirit bell.
Many thanks I look forward to my next purchase.

The first thing I noted was the quick shipping. I’m in the U.S., so getting something rapidly from the U.K. is kind of a feat! Next, the work done here is exquisite. This is a perfectly aged compliment to the antiqued Cesaral Bell, with an easy, yet theatrically impactful routine.

Unfortunately, no sooner had I unboxed the beautiful work, my wife’s pet goat, Pan, leapt up to the table and began chewing on one of the cards! I reminded the adorable creature that goats make excellent sacrifices, but Mrs. Rook disapproves. Luckily for all of us, Nick provides excellent customer services and a new set is en route!

I’m already planning my next purchase for a future show.
